Description

Currently working on a companion piece to All Good Things called Mommy Dearest. There is a lot of head cannon stuff that happens behind the scenes that I didn't have the room to put down in the story. So Mommy Dearest goes into the explanation of the three woman most important to the characters developments both in All Good Things and in future installments.

Tsuri is the mother of Aladdin. A Bedouin by birth, she was trained as a fighter and often defended her family from other tribes. When she married Cassim against her families wishes, she was kicked out of her tribe and became a raider with her new husband. She is strong, fearless and impatient. She has an edge of ferocity to her that makes her difficult to contend with. She is a deeply loving person but at the same time very sharp and practical minded. When she became pregnant with Aladdin they had to quit the bandit lifestyle and try to make an "honest living", something neither she nor Cassim were good at. Eventually Cassim decided to leave for the Hand of Midas quest and Tsuri (though initially supportive), had to suffer pregnancy, birth, and child rearing alone. She often resented Cassim for abandoning her and it showed. But she never failed her son, Aladdin. She knew that the world was harsh and uncaring, but she wanted better for him. She taught him to pick locks, pockets and how to dodge the guards. She was a tough and exacting teacher but always tempered with love for her son. She became sick during the plague in Agrabah when Aladdin was about six or seven and spent all her energy on ensuring his survival. She died just as Aladdin was beginning to recover, leaving him alone in the world.

Leilah is the mother of Jasmine. Born the crown princess of Iristan, she has never had very much control over her own life. She was lovely since birth and easily doted on by the servants and her parents. She learned all the things a princess was supposed to learn. How to speak quietly, if she absolutely must at all. How to be demure and delicate, always exuding a feminine grace. How to curtsy and smile and to always be the most pleasant creature to have around. She never questioned her life or breeding so when it was announced that she was to be married to the Sultan of Agrabah, she submitted without question. But she was afraid. She was afraid to leave behind everything she knew and on their wedding night, she cried. Not because he hurt her, but because no one had ever explained to her what would happen. The Sultan, terrified, would not touch her for months. He was sure he'd injured her. It was not until his adviser Jafar suggested that the young princess might be very innocent that the Sultan began the process of wooing her gently. It took months, but over time she became less shy and their relationship was able to progress naturally. She became pregnant and was prepared to go into seclusion when she fell ill. She was in terrible danger of losing her child and her life. She was never very strong and it took all Jafar's power and knowledge to keep her alive. She gave birth to Jasmine but was unable to give suck or even to lift herself from the bed. Leilah was kept in seclusion from her child, everyone terrified that any illness might pass to the little princess. She watched Jasmine play from a window and was permitted to see her once a day. For five years she watched her daughter grow, her health steadily improving with a great deal of medical care. She still was not allowed to touch her or care for her out of fear that it would cause too much strain on her delicate condition. When Jasmine was about five or six years old, plague struck Agrabah. Leilah didn't stand a chance. She was among the first to die, having never held her child in her arms.

Masika is the mother of Mozenrath. Born in Egypt, she is the fifteenth child of the Pharaoh. As a royal child, she is entitled to certain privileges, but as the fifteenth out of seventy five she is paid very little attention. When her father died, his Queen took over the throne as Regent until her son would be old enough to rule in his own right. The Queen began ridding herself and her son of possible contenders in the most time honored fashion of assassination and "accidental death". Masika, who was ten at the time, took initiative and went to the Queen. She pleaded that she had been given a vision of the goddess Bast, and wished to give up her royal title and instead live a life of service to the temple. The Queen permitted her abdication from the line and Masika spent ten years serving the goddess of protection, the life giving aspect of fire/the sun, and sex. She fell in love with a fellow priest named Fasir and the two of them were together for many years. As a royal child by birth, she did eventually rise to the rank of High priestess, when she was fully initiated into the Mysteries. It had a profound effect on her, and Masika became fixated on the dark aspect of Bast, Sekhmet. Fasir discouraged this, but Masika argued that this was still an aspect of Bast, and thus part of the divine plan. She began to worship Sekhmet in private, which was permitted, although not looked upon well, and began to see visions of great destruction and death being visited upon her city. When it came true, the temple of Bast was rededicated to Sekhmet, goddess of war, destruction and the lethal powers of fire/the sun. During the re-dedication, Sekhmet chose to bless Masika by making her an avatar of the dark goddess. The temple was removed from this realm of existence and the fellow priests turned into fire cats. Only Fasir was spared, as he was protected by Bast for his loyalty. Masika took the new name, Mirage, and became a servant for the dark forces of the world. After a few years in this role, she felt the command of the goddess to increase her lineage and power by having a litter. She was guided to Jafar, whom she seduced in her human form, and then retreated back to Morbia. She was disgusted to find that not only did she have only one child, but that it was skinny, pale and clearly a runt. She had just enough motherly instinct to leave the newborn with it's father rather than abandoning it. It was not until seven years later than she was informed of her child's potential as a sorcerer to become incredibly powerful. She came back to Jafar and demanded her rights as a mother, revealing her true nature. At the time, Jafar was still loyal to Agrabah and had no choice but to give his son, named Mozenrath, over to her. Mirage erased his memory of the palace and his father (which had been a relatively happy childhood) and delivered him to Destaine for tutelage.

I used Azalea's Heroine Dollmaker for this! [link]

Did you know they were going to have Aladdin's mother in the movie at first? Cutting her character was actually a heartbreaking decision for those involved because it meant cutting the song "Proud of Your Boy", which was the last song Howard Ashman worked on. They did allow Clay Aiken to do a cover of it. youtu.be/DdWB9zYLsAA
